ABOUT
Inaugurated on July 19, 1940, the Archaeological Museum of Tetouan is located in the heart of the city, just a few streets away from the picturesque Medina, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The collections of the Archaeological Museum of Tetouan are closely tied to archaeological research in the region. In fact, the majority of the artifacts and objects on display originate from excavations conducted in northern Morocco starting in the 1930s.

THE COLLECTIONS The museum houses prehistoric, ancient, and Islamic archaeological objects from various sites and monuments in the North, including Kaf Taht L’ghar, M’zora, Lixus, Tamuda, and Ksar Es Sghir. The collections consist of lithic tools, prehistoric human remains, architectural elements, ceramics, mosaics, coins, and bronze statuettes.
The museum tour begins in the garden, which features five 2nd-century AD mosaics discovered in Lixus, a collection of Islamic funerary steles from the Tetouan cemetery (16th and 17th centuries), and a set of Roman amphorae. The visit then continues in the entrance vestibule, adorned with two magnificent Roman mosaics from Lixus depicting the Three Graces and Bacchus's journey. On the ground floor, visitors explore an area dedicated to the city of Tetouan and its region, as well as another room containing several mosaics. Finally, on the upper floor, there is the "Tamuda" room.
